Braun - C1 Cassette recorder-player

Braun Atelier C1 – Vintage Stereo Cassette Deck – Tested and Working

This Braun Atelier C1 stereo cassette deck in black combines a slim profile with Braun’s distinctive, understated design. Its sliding cassette drawer, neatly arranged controls and illuminated displays make it an attractive addition to a vintage hi-fi system.

The C1 formed part of Braun’s early-1980s Atelier range, alongside matching amplifier, tuner and turntable components. The coordinated proportions reflect Braun’s emphasis on functional design and clear, accessible controls.

Features and connections:
- Sliding cassette-loading drawer with concealed tape-selection controls.
- Tape settings for normal, chrome, ferrochrome and metal cassettes.
- Dolby noise reduction and switchable MPX filter.
- Electronic tape counter with repeat, memory and reset controls.
- Separate left- and right-channel LED level indicators.
- Recording-level controls for line/DIN and microphone inputs.
- Front headphone output and two microphone inputs.
- Rear RCA line inputs and outputs, plus a DIN connection.

Cosmetic condition:
In good overall cosmetic condition for its age, with visible signs of use. The casing shows light surface marks and scuffs, while the cassette drawer has more noticeable scratches and small areas of finish wear along its upper trim and lower edge. The recording-level knobs also show surface wear, particularly the microphone-level knob. Some age-related tarnishing is visible around the front socket rings. The lettering remains clear and legible, and the controls appear complete. The photographs show the illuminated counter, level indicators and cassette compartment. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.

Working condition and maintenance:
The deck has been tested and is working fine. As with all vintage cassette decks, belts, rubber components, lubricants and other mechanical parts are subject to ageing. Although working at the time of testing, periodic maintenance or servicing may be required to maintain operation for many years to come. An appealing piece for Braun collectors, cassette enthusiasts or anyone assembling a matching Atelier system.
