The absolute protagonist is the peacock — the most vain and magnificent bird in the animal kingdom, portrayed at the height of its glory on a Mughal palace terrace, with the tail spread in a cascade of golden and turquoise eyes that occupies almost the entire composition. It’s not a tail: it’s a mantle, a curtain, a declaration of existence.

The scene opens on a dream courtyard: horseshoe arches in Indo-Islamic style adorned with golden inlays, columns in light marble, monumental vases with lush plants, coral-pink flowers dotting the intense green of tropical leaves. In the background, beyond the arches, a white temple glimpsed through the golden haze of late afternoon in India. The outer border, with its turquoise and ivory geometric-floral motif on a moss green background, frames the scene like a large-format Moghul miniature, recalling the painting traditions of Jaipur and Udaipur royal manuscripts.
