Lumière Eljy n°91580, a 24×36 camera with a retractable Lypar 40 mm f/3.5 lens and a folding viewfinder, in reasonable physical condition and untested, with its original worn leather case, sold as a collectible and not intended for regular use.
Description from the seller
Lumière Eljy No. 91580 – folding finder – Lypar 40 mm f/3.5 – France
Description:
Made by the famous Lumière house, the Eljy is one of the earliest 24×36 format devices designed in France. Launched in 1937, it remained in Lumière’s catalog for nearly 25 years, a sign of its success.
This specimen is a first-generation Eljy, recognizable by its folding optical finder. The Eljy Club model, which followed it in 1951, has a viewfinder integrated into the body. With its retractable lens, this small device—with remarkable compactness for its era—is a witness to the history of French photography.
Specifications:
Lumière Lypar 40 mm f/3.5 lens, the brighter version: many Eljy were equipped with f/4.5
Retractable lens
Folding optical finder
Shutter: 1/10 to 1/200 s + B/T exposure
Apertures: f/3.5 to f/16
Format 24×36, on a special perforation-free film that is no longer manufactured
Serial number: 91580
The lot includes:
the Lumière Eljy camera and its original leather case, in poor condition (offered as-is, for authenticity of the ensemble).
Condition:
Vintage camera with the normal signs of wear for its age:
some marks on the lens ring and one corner of the body;
grip wear and chromes slightly chipped.
The original case is very worn and damaged (see photos). It is included as a supplementary item, but no longer serves a protective function.
Sold as a collectible item. The original film is no longer produced, so the camera is not intended for regular photographic use.
Sold as described and photographed. Careful shipping, camera wrapped in bubble wrap inside a rigid carton.
