Description from the seller
For sale: 12 bottles of Stefanof Vodka [1x 1950s, the rest 1980s]
Vintage Stefanof Vodka bottles (Ivan Sergiu Stefanof)
11 bottles of Stefanof Vodka (70 cl, 40% vol)
1 bottle of Imperial Vodka Stefanof (75 cl, 40% vol)
The Producer (Gio. Buton & C. – Bologna):
Despite its Russian-sounding name ("Ivan Sergiu Stefanof"), this vodka is a famous historic Italian spirit produced by Gio. Buton & C. S.p.A. of Bologna. The company was founded in 1820 by the French master distiller Jean Bouton (whose name was later Italianized to Gio. Buton). Buton gained worldwide fame for its Vecchia Romagna brandy and historic liqueurs such as Coca Buton.
Brand Origins:
In the post-war period and during the economic boom of the 1960s and 70s, vodka became a highly fashionable spirit in Italy. To compete in the market, the Buton distillery created the "Ivan Sergiu Stefanof" brand, evoking Russian imperial aesthetics and tradition in the label design—featuring medals of merit, historical portraits, and heraldic crests—to lend the product an air of authenticity and prestige.
The contoured bottle on the right (Imperial Vodka Stefanof): This is the earliest version (manufactured roughly between the 1950s and 1960s). It features the characteristic embossed logo with gold medals and a classic flat/rectangular shape.
The cylindrical bottles (Vodka Stefanof): These are later editions, produced from the 1970s and 80s onwards, featuring a silver and light blue label, a 700 ml capacity, and an alcohol content of 40% vol. Fill Level: The fill level is slightly low (below the shoulder or neck of the bottle), a natural phenomenon caused by gradual and inevitable evaporation (natural loss) occurring over the decades through the corks of vintage bottles.
