Description from the seller

Roman bronze phallic amulet (Fascinum) — 1st–3rd centuries AD.

Period: Roman Empire.
Dating: 1st–3rd centuries AD (typological attribution).
Material: Bronze.
Typology: Phallic protective amulet.

An interesting bronze amulet of Roman tradition, made by casting, with a stylized phallic representation, small lateral protuberances and a central circular hole intended for suspension.

Known as fascina, these amulets played an important protective function in Roman society. They were used to ward off the evil eye (fascinatio), attract good fortune and promote fertility and prosperity.

Their use was especially widespread among soldiers, travelers and members of Roman society, who wore them as personal talismans.

An attractive piece of symbolic character, representative of popular beliefs and protective practices of the Roman world.
