Description from the seller
Bronze Roman ornamental plaque with a central button — 1st–4th centuries CE.
Proposed period: Roman Empire.
Material: Bronze.
Typology: Circular ornamental plaque with a posterior mounting system.
An interesting bronze plaque of circular shape, characterized by an elegant relief design of concentric circles, arranged around a prominent central button with a flat terminus.
The composition features a carefully defined outer border and a slightly concave surface, which accentuates the volume of the central element.
On the reverse side, traces of the ancient mounting system remain, characteristic of metal fittings used to ornament wooden surfaces, furniture, and other structures.
The piece shows an attractive green and brown patina, with mineral deposits, wear, and signs of antiquity.
Condition: Good integrity of the disk and its decoration, with deterioration of the rear mounting element.
An interesting example of small-scale ornamental metalwork with Roman tradition, especially appealing for its geometric balance and its preservation.
