Description from the seller

Blue-green glass Roman unguentarium — 1st–3rd centuries A.D.

Proposed period: Roman Empire.
Material: Blue-green glass.
Typology: Unguentarium or small cosmetic container.

An interesting piece of glass with a Roman tradition, characterized by a globular lower body, decorated with pronounced circular lines, from which a narrow and elongated neck rises.

It presents an attractive turquoise-green hue, with numerous superficial striations that enhance its singular appearance.

Unguentaria were vessels intended to preserve perfumes, aromatic oils, and cosmetic preparations, widely used in daily life and in funerary rituals of the Roman world.

Condition: Surface wear, small irregularities and visible fractures. Upper end incomplete.

An attractive example of ancient glassmaking tradition, especially interesting for its coloration and its characteristic globular silhouette.
