Description from the seller

Viking bronze axe pendant
9th-11th century A.D.

A fine Viking bronze axe pendant modelled in the shape of a miniature battle axe, with a broad, curved blade, a slightly flaring cutting edge, and a narrow neck extending to a tubular suspension socket. The blade is decorated with numerous raised circular bosses arranged across its surface, together with a horizontal dividing line near the cutting edge. The neck is ornamented with a series of transverse ridges, and the upper socket has a flared rim. The reverse is more simply decorated, with scattered punched dots and a lightly engraved border following the curved blade.
The pendant is in excavated condition, with age-related surface wear, dark green and brown patina, scattered encrustation, and minor irregularities, yet retaining its distinctive axe shape and decorative details.
An appealing example of Viking bronze jewellery inspired by traditional battle axes, ideal for collectors of Norse antiquities, early medieval pendants, or archaeological personal ornaments.

5.2 cm

Provenance: German collection, acquired in European market in 1970s
Certificate of authenticity enclosed.
