A Chinese celadon porcelain plate hand-painted in Famille Rose enamels, mounted in gilt bronze in a Rococo/Napoleonic style for use as a tray, centerpiece or vide poche, dating to the late Qing Dynasty / early Republic (c. 1880–1920).
Description from the seller
Elegant and scenographic Chinese porcelain plate with an aquamarine/celadon ground, skillfully mounted in Europe between the late 19th and early 20th century with a luxurious chased and gilded bronze (ormolu) mounting to be used as a tray, centerpiece or catchall.
The porcelain is entirely hand-painted with overglaze enamels in the Famille Rose palette (fencai). The rich decorative repertoire includes peonies, pomegranates, prickly pear, longevity gourds (hulu), butterflies and a vividly colored flying bird of paradise, traditional symbols in Chinese culture linked to prosperity, fertility and long life.
The European bronze mounting in Rococo / Napoleonic III style features finely chased scroll-leaf handles and a studded pierced border. On the reverse, the original three-arm support firmly holds the porcelain without any drilling or alteration of the ceramic structure.
On the bottom of the porcelain there is a blue underglaze seal mark referring to Emperor Qianlong.
