Description from the seller
Roman Empire.
Hadrian (117-138 AD).
Denarius (Silver, 18.8 mm, 3 g).
Obv: HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P. Bare head right.
Rev: FORTVNA AVG. Fortuna standing left with rudder and cornucopiae.
Reference: RIC II 244.
Hadrian consolidated the Roman Empire after the expansionist reign of Trajan, strengthening frontiers rather than pursuing further conquest. He travelled extensively through the provinces, reorganized administration and sponsored major building projects, including Hadrian’s Wall in Britain and the Pantheon in Rome. His reign was largely stable, though the Bar Kokhba revolt in Judaea brought severe conflict.
