Description from the seller
Makio Hasuike for Arnolfo di Cambio – "Square" coffee service, Italy, 1970s
Coffee/tea service designed by Makio Hasuike (Tokyo, 1938) for the Collezione Arnolfo di Cambio, manufactured by Società Ceramica Revelli in Laveno, Italy, in the 1970s. A characteristic example of Hasuike's work, combining Japanese minimalism with Italian functionalism: the cups have no protruding handle; instead the grip is recessed into the body, creating a sculptural play of light and shadow.
The lot comprises 19 pieces:
• 9 cups, white matte glaze – approx. 7.5 × 7.5 × 6 cm (h)
• 8 saucers, white matte glaze – approx. 12 × 12 × 1.5 cm (h)
• 1 milk jug, black matte glaze – approx. 13 × 12 cm (h)
• 1 sugar bowl with lid, black matte glaze – approx. 9 × 6.5 cm (h)
Marks: impressed Revelli "R" mark on the bases. The milk jug and the sugar bowl both retain their original silver "Collezione Arnolfo di Cambio – designer Makio Hasuike" label.
Condition: good vintage condition with signs of age and use. Crazing in the glaze on several saucers and in some cup interiors. Light discolouration on a few saucers, most visible on one. Wear and light soiling on the unglazed foot rims. The label on the milk jug is partly torn, and the label on the sugar bowl shows small rust spots. A small surface mark on the side of the milk jug. Please see the photos for details.
Dimensions are approximate. Carefully packed and shipped with tracking.
