Description from the seller
Rare Antique Red Copper & Brass Kraantjeskan on Comfoor – Netherlands – ca. 1820-1850 (Biedermeier)
The Story Behind This Object:
Step back in time to the Dutch drawing room of the early 19th century. Before the invention of electricity and modern thermos flasks, this majestic 'kraantjeskan' (coffee and water urn) was the absolute showpiece on the festively laid table of prosperous bourgeois families. Guests gathered around the sideboard, where this gleaming cylinder kept hot water or fresh coffee served for hours.
This particular specimen exudes pure nostalgia: in the base (the comfoor) glowing charcoal embers were placed back then. The authentic ash residues and traces of warmth in the sliding drawer tell the story of hundreds of cozy evenings by candlelight. With an impressive height of 48 centimeters and a solid weight of over 4.2 kilograms, this is a beautifully preserved piece of heavy quality and living Dutch history.
