Description from the seller
HIGHLIGHTS:
• Rare remaining Ariès CC4S Saloon from 1925
• Unique lightweight Weymann-type coachwork built by Audineau (cloth over a wooden frame)
• 1,130 cc four-cylinder engine with overhead camshaft and dual ignition (8 spark plugs, up to 55 hp)
• Fully restored including newly woven cotton wiring and Art Deco interior details
HISTORY & OVERVIEW:
Ariès was founded in 1902 in Villeneuve-de-la-Garenne by Baron Charles Petiet. After initially manufacturing luxury automobiles and later commercial vehicles, the brand entered motor sport in the 1920s. The technology employed was highly advanced for its time, including overhead camshaft engines that were also used in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
This particular example is an Ariès CC4S Saloon from 1925 and, as far as is known, the only remaining example with this specific lightweight Audineau coachwork built according to the Weymann principle (fabric over a light wooden frame). The car was originally bought in France by an Italian enthusiast who started the restoration, after which the car passed through a Dutch collector and was ultimately fully restored by the current owner. The chassis has been sandblasted and repainted, the woodwork meticulously inspected and repaired, and the vehicle reupholstered entirely. The car has logged over 34,000 km with proven reliability, starts and runs, but still requires a light tuning.
BODYWORK & PAINT:
The car features a distinctive Weymann-type coachbuilt body by Audineau, consisting of fabric upholstery over a light wooden frame. During restoration the chassis was fully sandblasted and repainted. The wooden frame was carefully inspected and repaired where necessary. The body has been completely retrimmed and is in very beautiful condition after restoration.
INTERIOR:
The interior is fully renewed and houses stunning, original Art Deco details, including authentic trim, ribbons and tassels. The electrical system has been renewed using single-core cotton-wrapped wiring to preserve the period-correct and authentic appearance.
ENGINE & TECHNICAL:
The car is powered by a 1,130 cc four-cylinder engine with an overhead camshaft and magneto ignition (engine numbers T 3075 / T 1884). The engine accommodates 8 spark plugs for dual ignition per cylinder, allowing power to range from 40 hp (with 4 plugs) to approximately 55 hp. The engine has been fully dismantled, thoroughly inspected and rebuilt. The vehicle runs and functions, but requires a slight tuning to operate optimally.
DOCUMENTS:
Registration documents are present (chassis number D 3060).
The vehicle can be viewed and collected. Bids exclude transport and export, unless otherwise stated. Arranging transport, title transfer and any export documents/COC costs are the buyer’s responsibility."

Disclaimer
Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
