Description from the seller
Amsterdam School Geometric Pendant Lamp – Art Deco, Netherlands, 1920s
A striking and highly decorative vintage pendant lamp attributed to the Amsterdam School movement, dating from the 1920s. This distinctive hexagonal lantern features sloping geometric glass panels decorated in a dramatic palette of fiery red, ochre yellow, cream and dark charcoal, creating a beautiful effect when illuminated.
The faceted, pyramid-shaped construction is complemented by a dark patinated metal frame and an unusual suspension system with thick, twisted black cords and elongated oval wooden beads. The combination of bold geometry, expressive colours and handcrafted details makes this lamp a true eye-catcher and an exceptional statement piece for an Art Deco, eclectic or design-focused interior.
The Amsterdam School was an influential Dutch architectural and decorative arts movement that flourished during the early twentieth century. Closely associated with expressive forms, rich materials and artisanal craftsmanship, it developed a distinctive regional interpretation of the international Art Deco aesthetic. This pendant lamp reflects that striking decorative language.
The glass panels are intact. The painted decoration displays some age-related wear, giving the lamp an authentic, attractive patina consistent with its age. Its sculptural silhouette and distinctive original-style suspension details make it an appealing collectible for enthusiasts of Dutch decorative arts and early twentieth-century lighting.
