Description from the seller

Art Sacré – Petit reliquaire / autel domestique mural en bois sculpté avec Crucifix, Vierge à l'Enfant et Saint Évêque – Fin XIXe/Xe début XXe siècle

Charming little reliquary or private devotional home altar, designed in the shape of a Gothic arch / stylized church façade in carved and varnished wood.

The reliquary comprises three vitreous votive niches behind glass:

At the top: A small metal/brass Christ on the cross (Crucifix) fixed to a wooden backing.

Lower left niche: A miniature statuette depicting the Virgin and Child (Saint Mary).

Lower right niche: A molded brass figure representing a bishop saint (such as Saint Nicholas, Saint Martin, or Saint Eloi) wearing a mitre and an elaborated crozier.

The piece features a perforated suspension ring at the top of the structure for original wall mounting.

Origin: Europe (France / Belgium)

Era: Late 19th century – early 20th century (c. 1890–1920)

Materials: Molded and carved wood, brass/metal, composition figurine, glass

Dimensions: Height 19.5 cm, width 12 cm, depth ~2.5 cm

Glass: Major crack/through fracture across the front protective pane (visibly very clear on the front face).

Wood: Very fine patina of the original wood with small signs of age, light wear, and traces of old glue/sealing putty around the glass edge.

Interior elements: All three figurines and the crucifix remain securely fixed inside their niches.
