Description from the seller
Description:
Fascinating and rare pair of candelabras (antique church/palace candle holders) in carved wood finely carved and gold leaf gilded, dating to the mid-18th century (Baroque/Rococo era). The pieces display the typical elegant structure of Venetian workmanship, characterized by a base with a beveled, three-faced board decorated with shell motifs and stylized leaves, resting on shaped feet. The shaft features carved balustrade-like nodes that terminate in the upper paten.
The candle holders preserve much of the original period gilding, with the splendid natural patina of time that allows glimpses of the preparation and the bole underneath, testimony to their authenticity and almost three centuries of history.
The objects have been converted into table lamps in a later period through non-invasive external electrification (the wires run along the back fixed by small hooks, preserving the integrity of the ancient wood). The electrical system is equipped with a switch and is functional.
Provenance: from a historic Venetian residence.
Material: Carved wood, plaster (gesso), gold leaf
Era: 18th century (1700s)
Style: Venetian Baroque
Height: 57 cm
Base diameter/ footprint: about 13 cm
Conditions: Structurally sound. Show natural signs of time, small losses and losses of gilding, wear and old conservative restorations that enhance authenticity.
Electrical system: functional (a technical check is recommended before daily use).
Photos: integral part of the description.
