Description from the seller
Exceptional German Bauhaus-Style Industrial Wall Coat & Hat Rack – Circa 1930s–1940s
A beautifully preserved and highly decorative vintage wall-mounted coat and hat rack, acquired in Dresden, Germany, and most probably dating from the 1930s–1940s.
This remarkable piece reflects the principles of German Functionalism and Bauhaus-inspired industrial design, combining elegant geometric simplicity, practical functionality and distinctive sculptural details.
Entirely constructed in metal, it features a beautifully curved chrome-plated tubular frame, an integrated upper hat shelf and three substantial, individually mounted double hooks with an unusual T-shaped design.
The harmonious proportions, rounded corners and minimalist construction give this piece a particularly strong architectural character, typical of early 20th-century European modernist interiors.
Authentic Original Patina
The coat rack retains its original aged chrome-plated finish, displaying characteristic surface spotting, minor oxidation and natural signs of wear accumulated over many decades.
These age-related imperfections contribute to its authentic industrial charm and historical character.
Despite its age, the structure remains remarkably solid, attractive and fully functional, ready to serve its original purpose for many more years.
No obvious structural damage or significant alterations are visible.
Historical Context
Acquired in Dresden, Germany, a city with a distinguished tradition of craftsmanship, metalworking and modernist design.
Its tubular construction, functional simplicity and distinctive metal hooks reflect the aesthetic principles associated with the German Bauhaus movement and the wider functionalist design tradition of the 1920s–1940s.
Although the original manufacturer has not been identified, its design and construction suggest production during the first half of the 20th century.
