Wall-mounted carved solid wood mirror with gold leaf, dating to the 19th–20th century, in Barocchetto/Rococo Revival style, external dimensions 60 × 35 × 9 cm, with an original mercury mirror.
Description from the seller
Description:
Spectacular and dramatic wall-mounted light-bearing mirror (turning ornament) carved in precious wood, entirely hand-engraved with fretwork and gilded, dating to the 19th/early 20th century. The piece stands out for its extraordinary richness and the high plastic quality of the carving in perfect Baroque Revival style: the frame is fully carved in solid wood with continuous foliate reliefs that enclose perimeter mirrors and culminate in a superior pediment elegantly pierced with geometric and vegetal motifs.
A very valuable and rare craftsmanship item is the lower two-light arm, also entirely carved from wood, projecting forward and terminating in two splendid spill-plates shaped with a floral corolla and beaded; the central panel consists of an original mercury mirror embellished with authentic bloomings and time-worn gray-dark patinas that attest to its antiquity.
The front preserves a rich and luminous gilding. The back retains its period wooden back, finished in the typical reddish protective color. From a private collection.
