AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Rare handmade silver miniature in the shape of a street organ / barrel organ - colloquially also called a draai piano or Pierement.

The miniature is exceptionally beautiful in form and highly detailed, handcrafted.

The large crank on the side is the playing crank. With it, the organ grinder turned. With that turn you did two things at once: you pumped the bellows full of air and you let a large wooden wheel/cylinder with pins rotate. Those pins opened the valves of the organ pipes. The harder you turned, the louder the music.

The small crank at the front – the stop/percussion crank. On luxury fairground and street organs you not only had organ pipes, but also drums, cymbals and a xylophone at the top. With that second smaller crank the organ grinder could switch those extra instruments on and off, or choose a different music book / another melody.

The round piece on the right should in real life represent the bass drum.

The whole is made of a high silver content (925/1000)

The miniature has been very thoroughly double-checked and marked with silver hallmarks: the name of the famous Italian silver artists Medusa Oro. This Italian silver house is known for handcrafting exceptionally detailed silver miniatures.

Because the Netherlands has very strict standards for silver content, the miniature was previously reinspected by a Dutch silversmith upon import into the Netherlands.

After approval it was marked with the old Dutch (import) silver standard mark, the alloy mark Z1, which stands for the high silver content 925/1000, first quality silver.

Also bearing the master mark of the Dutch silversmith who performed the re-check (see photos)

It is a sturdy, robust miniature; dimensions are 4.00 by 3.00 cm and the height is 4.5 cm.

The Pierement, with a weight of 57.8 grams for a miniature, is also fairly heavy (not filled or weighted; net silver weight).

Overall, given its age of at least 50 years, it is in particularly beautiful, pristine, and complete condition.

This rare handmade 1st quality silver miniature is, by its size, its lovely form, the detailed workmanship, and the many charming details, a striking and special decorative object.

Well packed and insured shipping.
