Description from the seller
CARCHARODONTOSAURUS SAHARICUS – FOSSIL TOOTH
For sale: an authentic fossil tooth of Carcharodontosaurus saharicus, one of the largest and most impressive carnivorous dinosaurs from the Late Cretaceous of North Africa.
Carcharodontosaurus saharicus was a huge carcharodontosaurid theropod and one of the apex predators of its time. The species lived in North Africa during the Cenomanian, about 96 million years ago, and occurred in the same ecosystem as, among others, Spinosaurus. Fossil teeth attributed to Carcharodontosaurus are known from the Cenomanian Kem Kem Group of Morocco.
SPECIMEN INFORMATION
• Species: Carcharodontosaurus saharicus
• Type: Fossil tooth
• Geologic group: Kem Kem Group
• Locality: Kem Kem Beds, south of Taouz, Morocco
• Period: Late Cretaceous
• Epoch: Cenomanian
• Age: circa 96 million years
The teeth of Carcharodontosaurus are characteristically almond-shaped and laterally flattened, with sharp cutting edges and fine serrations. These specialized teeth were well suited for wounding and slicing prey. Similar teeth attributed to Carcharodontosaurus are well documented from the Kem Kem Group.
This specimen has a beautiful natural fossil color and a clearly recognizable tooth form. The natural texture and features of the fossilization process give the specimen an authentic appearance.
INFORMATION CARD INCLUDED
Each tooth comes with a professional information card, as seen in the photos. It lists the scientific name, geological age, geological group, and locality.
A wonderful fossil for collectors of dinosaurs and paleontology. It is special to hold an authentic tooth of one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs of North Africa — a piece of history about 96 million years old.
Dimensions: ~12.5 cm
Origin: Kem Kem Beds, south of Taouz, Morocco.
