Five Megaloceros giganteus bones from the North Sea, a Pleistoceen paleontological specimen dating to ca. 50,000 years before Christ, in reasonably good condition, with a total weight of 4700 g and dimensions 25 × 13 × 35 cm, acquired in 1990 from a private collection, officially authentic and originating from the Noordzee.
Description from the seller
From my collection I offer 5 bones of the giant deer from the North Sea.
These bones are rare.
The bones are HEAVILY fossilized and patinated.
The most important and rare pieces are those with the large holes. Here the prehistoric man – presumably the Neanderthal – removed the ends of the bones to extract the marrow. Or: they were gnawed by other animals, such as wolves, etc.
Very rare !!!!
For images of this animal: see the different photos.
Caught at the end of the last century in the North Sea: Doggersbank
See the last photo!!
The scientific name of this animal is MEGALOCERAS GIGANTEUS.
A complete skeleton has been found in the peat bogs of Ireland.
In the North Sea, very rarely, only individual bones are found.
Only: fishing is increasingly restricted!!
Total weight of the 5 = 4700 grams.
Shipped only within the EU
