Antique Venetian Baroque style gilded lacquered wood mirror from Italy, dating to 1800–1850, with external dimensions 54 × 34 cm, depth 5 cm and a 31 × 21 cm inner mirror, in good condition with minor signs of age and stains.
Description from the seller
Description:
An exquisitely elegant and flavorful period frame, a superb example of Venetian craftsmanship from the mid-19th century.
The frame features a richly curved and articulated silhouette, beautifully finished by alternating an antique lacquer in sage green/gray granite tones with a rich gold leaf gilding on the profiles and on the raised moldings.
The superb upper pediment is pierced with a day-cut motif of a large open acanthus leaf, supported by elegant scrolls and twisted volutes. The looking-glass encloses its original contemporaneous mercury-backed mirror plate, characterized by suggestive and authentic flourishes, oxidation spots and a splendid silvery patina typical of the 18th century.
The object preserves a magnificent patina on the front, with plaster preparation and red-brown bole that surface delicately at the worn points. The back retains its intact antique structure. Originating from a prestigious private collection.
• Material: Carved wood, plaster, artisanal lacquer, gold leaf, original mercury mirror
Period: 19th century
Style: Venetian Baroque Revival / Louis XV
External dimensions: 54 x 34 cm
Internal dimensions (Mirror):
31 x 21 cm
Frame thickness: 5 cm
Condition: Very good in relation to its age and the fragility of the lacquer. Solid wooden structure.
