Pair of tall glass candlesticks with diamant relief and a fluted drip bowl, pressed glass in an Art Deco style attributed to the Netherlands, ca. 1900–1930, each about 29 cm high and 12 cm wide with a total weight of 1495 g, in good used condition with minor age-related marks.
Description from the seller
Two candeliers with Diamond relief and a cut drips dish • Netherlands (attrib.) • ca. 1900–1930
A pair of tall glass candeliers with diamond relief and a scalloped drips dish, from the early 20th century. The square shaft carries rosettes between a ribbed relief, the octagonal foot steps out in a tiered fashion. The glass is pressed and follows the style of hand-cut crystal. At 29 centimeters high, these candeliers are substantial. In candlelight, the relief catches the light across the entire shaft.
Description:
Each candelabrum stands on a tiered foot with beveled corners. The foot is hollow and also shows the pattern on the inside. Above it runs a square shaft with rounded compartments bearing rosettes, between two fluted rings. The polygonal candle holder carries a scalloped drips dish with diamond-point fields. A seam runs along the shaft. With about 750 grams per candelabrum, the glass is thick-walled.
About the maker:
Circa 1830, glass could be pressed into a mold. It made glass inexpensive and durable. Glass Factory Leerdam began with pressed glass and table glass in 1878, with skilled workers from Germany and Bohemia. A Dutch dealer attributes this model to Leerdam, around 1900. Thus this pair fits the Dutch pressed glass tradition of those years.
In interior design:
Fits in a classic, rustic, or eclectic interior, on a laid table, sideboard, or mantel. Two candlesticks of this height give a table immediate structure.
Condition:
Good, with signs of use. Candleholder from one candlestick: the interior is damaged due to a candle having burned down. This does not affect its use or decorative value. The pressed seams are characteristic of manufacture. Feet and shafts: light signs of use. See the photographs.
At a glance:
Material: glass, pressed in a mold, with relief decoration of diamond points and rosettes
