AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Pair of English trays in Stone China decorated in the famous pattern “Amherst Japan,” one of the most successful nineteenth-century interpretations of Orientalist and Imari taste in Staffordshire production.
The composition features a large flowering vase, botanical tendrils, an oriental pavilion, and landscapish motifs, enclosed by a rich blue cobalt, iron red, and orange floral border, with small gilded accents. The shaped form and the quality of the decoration are consistent with Minton production from the early nineteenth century.

Marks and attribution
On the back there is a blue cartouche with the inscription “AMHERST JAPAN,” the model number 63 and “STONE CHINA,” as well as a mark impressed in paste. The combination of the cartouche, the pattern name, and the technical characteristics allows tracing the pieces to the Minton manufacture of Stoke-on-Trent. The Amherst Japan pattern is documented in Minton production from the 1820s and is particularly widespread between the 1830s and 1840s.

Condition
Very good. No chips or cracks detected; surface bright, decoration well preserved; slight physiological signs of use and small manufacturing irregularities consistent with age."} )}{
