Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman model 670, designed by Ray and Charles Eames and produced in Italy by ICF in the 1960s, in good used condition with minor signs of wear and stains.
Description from the seller
The Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman model 670 produced by the Italian company ICF (Industrial Center Furnishings) represents a historically important and highly collectible variant of the famous chair designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956.
Historical context and licenses
In the 1960s and 1970s, ICF (based in Vimodrone, Milan) obtained the official license from Herman Miller (and partly through agreements with Vitra) to produce and market the Eameses’ furniture in Italy and other European markets. This production officially ceased in 1986, when Vitra centralized the rights for the entire Europe. Consequently, ICF pieces are today regarded as truly original vintage items, rare and highly sought after on the mid-century modern market.
Technical Sheet and Construction Details
Component – ICF production specifications
Casings (Shells) – Made from hot-formed curved plywood.
Upholstery – Unlike modern versions (stiffer in molded polyurethane foam), the ICF-era cushions retain the original configuration with polyurethane foam interior, often enriched in the very first models with goose feather, offering a seating that feels more lived-in and welcoming.
Covering – Exclusively high-quality leather (usually black or brown), fastened to the shells via the characteristic covered buttons and thick piping edges.
Base and Supports – 5-star swivel base for the chair and 4-star fixed base for the ottoman. Aluminum die-cast frame with a matte black finish on the sides and glossy/brushed upper profiles. The backrest connection joints are dampened by hard rubber supports (shock mounts).
