Background Information:
This cast bronze finger ring features an oval bezel engraved with an abstract geometric motif composed of intersecting curved and linear elements. Decorative patterns of this kind were characteristic of medieval jewellery produced in the Crusader States, where Western European, Byzantine, and Islamic artistic traditions met and influenced one another.
Bronze rings of this type were widely worn as personal ornaments by men and women from various social backgrounds. While some rings carried religious or heraldic imagery, many were decorated with abstract or geometric designs that emphasised artistic craftsmanship rather than symbolic representation. Such engraved motifs reflect the rich decorative vocabulary of the eastern Mediterranean during the Crusader period.
The ring was produced using established bronze-casting techniques and subsequently finished by hand, with the engraved decoration carefully cut into the bezel. Comparable examples have been recovered from Crusader castles, fortified towns, pilgrimage centres, and medieval settlements throughout the Levant, demonstrating the widespread use of bronze jewellery and the exchange of artistic styles across the region."
