Guangxu period (1875–1908) rectangular decorative box from China, titled Scatoletta, made of exotic hardwood with a hand‑carved pierced lid and dimensions 10 cm high by 6 cm wide by 5 cm deep, in good condition.
Description from the seller
An exquisite antique rectangular box in dark, fine wood (probably rosewood or ebony), delicately carved with fretwork on the lid featuring geometric patterns and archaic Oriental-inspired elements (stylized dragons / Chilong motifs and traditional Greek key). The piece consists of two parts: A perforated lid: entirely hand-carved with an elaborate fretwork that allows breath of smoke or scent to escape (ideal as an incense burner, perfume box, or container for potpourri). Base: rectangular box with a precise interlock for the lid.
