Description from the seller
Ink drawing.
Henri Guillac is best known for his collaboration with Le Canard enchaîné between 1921 and 1953. He drew the two iconic ducks that adorn the newspaper's front page, which have become symbols of its visual identity. His style is characterized by clean lines, often in black and white, with a satirical touch and a certain irony, suited to the newspaper's political humor. In addition to his contributions to Le Canard enchaîné, he also illustrated literary works, notably the cover of the book La Prochaine Dernière by Georges de la Fouchardière, published in 1932.
Henri Guillac left a mark on the history of French satirical press with his longevity and the consistency of his style. His drawings accompanied readers of Le Canard enchaîné for more than three decades, contributing to the paper's visual identity and spirit. His participation in the first jury of the Prix Femina in 1926 also attests to his recognition in the literary and artistic circles of the time.
