Two Chinese blue‑and‑white porcelain teacups with saucers from the Qianlong period (18th century), ca. 1750–1780, in good antique condition with a fine hairline on one cup and one saucer, hand‑painted underglaze blue on white porcelain, cups about 8.7–9.1 cm, saucers about 14 cm.
Description from the seller
Two Chinese blue-and-white teacups with saucers – Qianlong period – 18th century
A handsome lot consisting of two Chinese porcelain teacups with two accompanying saucers, executed in cobalt blue underglaze on white porcelain.
The pieces are hand-painted around with a characteristic Chinese river-and-garden landscape. On the saucers we see, among other things, pavilions, rock formations, flowering plants and large decorative vases with flowers and valuables. Along the rim is a richly worked geometric and floral ornamental band.
The cups are likewise exteriorly painted with Chinese landscapes, pavilions and mountain scenes and have a decorative blue border on the interior. The different shades of cobalt blue and the slight irregularities in the painting emphasize the handmade character.
The type, form and decoration fit well with Chinese export porcelain from the Qianlong period (1736–1795). Similar blue-and-white teacups and saucers with landscape decoration are dated to the middle and latter half of the 18th century.
Dimensions:
Saucers: ca. 14 cm diameter
Teacups: ca. 8.7 cm and 9.1 cm diameter
Condition: good antique condition considering age. One cup and one saucer have a fine hairline, clearly visible in the detail photos. Further light signs of wear and baking traces consistent with 18th-century porcelain. No marks visible on the underside. See the photos for a full impression of the condition.
Dating: probably ca. 1750–1780
Period: Qing dynasty, Qianlong
Origin: China
Material: porcelain
Decoration: underglaze blue, hand-painted
Quantity: 4 pieces – 2 cups and 2 saucers
An attractive and decorative set of 18th-century Chinese export porcelain, which was produced in large quantities in the 18th century especially for the European market.
