Description from the seller
Elegant French table clock in the Louis XV style – Second half of the 19th century
Splendid French table clock made in the second half of the 19th century, attributable to Napoleonic III taste, characterized by rich decorative bronze gilt ornaments and a refined lacquered and painted structure with floral motifs.
The case, with a sinuous and scenographic profile, is embellished with elaborate gilt bronze applications depicting volutes, acanthus leaves, shells and rocaille motifs, typical of the Louis XV decorative repertoire. The back panel, dark green with decorative veining, is enriched by elegant hand-painted polychrome floral decorations.
The dial, with white enamel cartouches bearing black Roman numerals, is set within a rich pierced bronze frame. In the center is a finely worked ornamental medallion.
The movement is mechanical, hand-wound. On the back plate is the hallmark Japy Frères & Cie with reference 151-070, one of the most important French makers of clock movements in the 19th century, a guarantee of the piece’s construction quality.
The clock retains a remarkable presence and is ideal both as a decorative element and for collectors of 19th-century French pendulum clocks.
Conditions
The object presents in generally good condition, compatible with its age. Normal signs of wear and use are present, which do not compromise its overall charm.
The movement is complete; it has not been tested for long-term correct operation and is therefore sold as an antique item.
