Description from the seller

LOTTO OF 7 EUROPEAN SOUP TOTS (SOUP TUREENS) – GINORI, RICHARD GINORI, MOULIN DES LOUPS, SELTMANN, WINTERLING AND LUBIANA
Description

Interesting lot composed of seven tureens with lid, made by different European manufactories and belonging to different periods of the 20th century and, in the case of the principal Ginori, to a historical production.

The lot brings together pieces from Italian, French, German and Polish manufactories, characterized by different shapes, decorations and finishes.

The piece of greatest interest in the lot is the large Ginori white porcelain tureen with pomegranate handle, accompanied by six other tureens from different manufactories.

1. GINORI – TUREEN WITH POMEGRANATE HANDLE

Large tureen in white porcelain, with lid, two elaborate side handles and a distinctive top handle modeled in the shape of a pomegranate.

The type is documented for historic Ginori production: there are on the antiquarian market white porcelain examples with two scroll handles and pomegranate handle attributed to the 19th century.

The piece features particularly rich modeling and a slightly irregular circumference. The irregularity of the profile is clearly perceptible when viewed from above and constitutes a very distinctive feature of the workmanship.

The base bears the GINORI mark in green.

The exact dating of the specimen is not stated with certainty; the form, the mark and construction features suggest a historical production, approximately from the late 19th to the early 20th century, to be considered as a chronological attribution rather than an absolute dating.

Conditions: the lid has two nicks, clearly visible in the photographs, in addition to normal signs of wear and age.

2. RICHARD GINORI – ITALY

Round tureen in white porcelain, with lid, two side handles and decoration with gilded Linework.

The base bears the mark Richard Ginori – Italy.

The form and the mark are compatible with production in the second half of the 20th century, without assigning a more precise date in the absence of further identifying codes.

Gilding shows normal signs of wear and aging.

3. MOULIN DES LOUPS / HAMAGE – FRANCE

Important white ceramic/faience tureen, characterized by rich plastic modeling, with elaborate side handles, raised body and strongly molded lid.

On the bottom the mark reads:

MOULIN DES LOUPS
HAMAGE
NORD
FRANCE

The designation Moulin des Loups-Hamage is associated with the Wandignies-Hamage production beginning in 1928; the Wandignies-Hamage facility ceased production in 1952. The piece’s temporal placement is therefore compatible with the first half of the 20th century, roughly 1928–1952.

The piece retains a strong decorative and plastic character.

Conditions: has several nicks and losses of material; the lid has been reglued/repaired. There are also marks and traces compatible with age and use.

All defects are visible in the photographs.

4. JOHANN SELTMANN – VOHENSTRAUSS – BAVARIA

Round tureen in white porcelain, with lid, two side handles and a gilded upper handle.

The body and lid are decorated with an ornamental band in brown and gold tones.

The bottom bears the mark:

BAVARIA
VOHENSTRAUSS
JOHANN SELTMANN
with an additional number.

The Johann Seltmann Vohenstrauß manufactory was founded in 1901 and production in Vohenstrauß ended in 1996. The mark on this piece is compatible with postwar and late 20th century production; the number “49” on the bottom is not interpreted as a production year.

Conditions: normal signs of wear and use, with wear especially on the gilded parts.

5. HEINRICH WINTERLING – MARKTLEUTHEN – BAVARIA

White porcelain tureen with lid, two side handles and a slightly contoured profile.

The decoration features a floral motif in pink/peach and green-grey tones, distributed over the body and the lid.

The bottom bears the mark:

WINTERLING
MARKTLEUTHEN
BAVARIA

The Winterling porcelain works of Marktleuthen operated from 1903 to 2009; the mark “Winterling Marktleuthen Bavaria” is documented for post-1950 production.

The piece is therefore broadly dateable to the second half of the 20th century.

Conditions: good for the age, with normal signs of use and wear.

6. LUBIANA – MADE IN POLAND

Round tureen in white porcelain, with lid, two large side handles and a body with soft, rounded forms.

On the bottom the mark reads:

LUBIANA
MADE IN POLAND

The mark is compatible with Lubiana production circa 1969–1992.

The tureen presents a simple, elegant shape, free of painted decoration, valued solely for the body and handle modeling.

Conditions: normal signs of aging and use.

7. OVALE TUREEN – UNIDENTIFIED MANUFACTORY

Large oval tureen in white ceramic/porcelain, with lid and two side handles of geometric form.

The bottom bears a very faded circular mark, not readable enough to allow a definite attribution of the manufactory.

For accuracy, the piece is therefore offered as unidentified manufactory, without speculative attributions.

Conditions: presence of normal signs of time and use.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

The lot shows varying conditions, consistent with the different eras and origins of the pieces.

Normal signs of time, use, small imperfections and wear on surfaces and decorations are present.

The main defects to report are:

Ginori Pomegranate: two nicks on the edge of the lid;
Moulin des Loups / Hamage: several nicks/losses of material and lid reglued/repaired;
Richard Ginori and Johann Seltmann: gilding wear;
on the other pieces there are normal signs compatible with age and use.

The photographs show the pieces and their marks and defects in detail and must be considered an integral part of the description.

The lot is sold in the condition documented by the photographs.
