France, 1900; original seven-page autographed letter in French by Charles Maurras (Littérature), 17 × 22.3 cm, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
Long autograph letter signed by Charles Maurras, undated. Written in black ink on seven sheets of vellum paper.
This long message testifies to a marked political unease and develops a genuine argument for the necessity of unified action in the face of what he considers an imminent danger. The whole constitutes a reflection, a thought-out strategy to adopt and the risks tied to inaction.
The letter contains several phrases characteristic of Maurras's militant commitment, notably when he mentions « an increasing worry », questions the direction being taken, « Where are we going? », and insists on the urgency of collective cohesion: "The letter shows the necessity of a union against all these fools and all these rogues". He firmly rejects the idea that unity could harm anyone: "But it is more absurd still to imagine that the union will compromise us one way or another!"
Further on, he recalls the importance of a precise date, probably electoral or strategic: « The 17th is approaching, are we going to miss the opportunity to affirm ourselves [...] It would be a great shame. And a crime. And what stupidity! ». The text continues with a direct call to collective action: « There must be unity by action ».
The whole forms a dense political document typical of Maurras, both in style and in the concerns expressed, offering a revealing testimony of his thought and militant practice
