Description from the seller

Prayer Card of the so called 'çanivet' type.

In the middle of the praying card a portrait of Jesus in watercolour surrounded by 5 roses and a tulip and grid patterns. . Jesus with crown of thorns and reed stalk after the flagellation and mocking of the soldiers.

Ecce Homo (Latin for "Behold the man") are the words that the Roman prefect Pontius Pilate spoke, according to the Gospel of John (19:5), when he presented Jesus to the people.

The name '' canivet' derives from the French word *canif* (knife) or the medieval *canipulum*—the small knife that monks and copyists originally used both to sharpen their quill pens and to cut intricate patterns into parchment or paper.

This prayer card is made in Flandres around the year 1800.
