Pseudaelurus, fossil back tooth specimen from the Neogene Miozän (23.03–5.33 million years) Petersbuch, Germany; preserved and natural, authentic/original.
Description from the seller
On offer is an interesting fossil molar tooth of the extinct predatory cat Pseudaelurus from the Miocene site Petersbuch in Bavaria. The fossil comes from an old collection and presents a nice testimony to the early evolutionary history of the feliforms.
Pseudaelurus lived about 20 to 8 million years ago and is regarded as an important early form within the evolutionary line of modern cats. These primitive predators already moved through the habitats of that time with a body form typical for cats and are among the exciting representatives of Europe’s Miocene mammal fauna.
The tooth shows a characteristic light, cream to yellowish-beige coloration of the crown, while the root is mineralized in warm, earthy brown and ochre tones. The preserved tooth structure and the natural patina give this piece an authentic fossil character.
An attractive collectible for enthusiasts of fossil predators, extinct cat relatives, and the Miocene mammal fauna of Petersbuch.
