Description from the seller
Walther & Söhne - Dish - Salmon pink 'Rotterdam' with interwoven relief pattern on three feet • Art Deco • Germany • 1935 - Glass
Walther dish 'Rotterdam' in salmon pink glass, with a relief decor of concentric loops and three amber-colored feet. The loops run from the rim to the center and give the glass depth, the edge ripples. On a table or sideboard, the light rests in every loop. The model is listed in Walther's 1935 catalog.
For this object, a Buy Now price has also been set, for those who want to acquire it immediately without waiting.
Description:
A wide bowl with a diameter of 31 centimeters and a height of 7 centimeters, on three hexagonal feet. The relief decor consists of three large loops, each surrounded by rings that widen toward the rim. The round facets under the bowl are finely stippled. The glass is pressed. The feet are solid and a deeper amber color. In the 1935 catalog, Rotterdam is listed as a service with three-footed bowls in several sizes.
About the maker:
Karl Gottlieb Walther founded a glass factory in 1865 in Ottendorf-Okrilla, Saxony. In 1888 August Walther took over the factory as August Walther & Söhne and began working with pressed glass on American machines. In the 1930s Walther released large pressed glass services, including Rotterdam, with bowls, can, butter dish and carafe.
In interior design:
Fits an Art Deco, vintage, or eclectic interior, as a fruit bowl on a dining table or sideboard. The salmon-pink glass colors warmly in daylight and catches candlelight in the relief.
Condition:
Good, with signs of use. Feet: small signs of wear on the underside. Rim and wall: no chips or cracks observed. The fine bubbles in the glass are production-related. See the pictures. Offered as a decorative object, not intended for use with food.
In a glance:
Material: pressed glass, salmon pink, underside partly stippled
Dimensions and weight: h 7 x diameter 31 cm, 1115 grams
Brand: no factory mark or signature found
Dating: 1935
Provenance: private collection, Western Europe
Attribution and sources:
