Large Italian antique gilded wood and glass mirror dating to 1850–1900, with a deep, robust frame (116 × 94 cm external; 84 × 62 cm mirror; 11 cm depth) and a weight of about 21 kg, featuring acanthus motifs and a perlinato inner profile.
Description from the seller
Large Italian gilded wood mirror, presumably dating to the second half of the 19th century or later, characterized by substantial dimensions and a particularly deep and robust frame.
The frame features rich decoration with large acanthus leaf motifs applied to the four corners and an elegant beaded inner profile that encases the mirror. The raised decorations appear to have been likely made in plaster/gesso on a wooden structure, according to traditional decorative techniques.
The surface preserves a suggestive gilded finish with patina and signs of wear from time. Since a specific analysis of the gilding has not been performed, it is not declared as gold leaf.
Dimensions and weight
External dimensions: 116 × 94 cm
Maximum depth: 11 cm
Mirror dimensions: 84 × 62 cm
Total weight: approximately 21 kg
The notable size, depth of about 11 cm, and weight of about 21 kg confer the mirror with an impressive and scenographic presence.
Conditions
The mirror is preserved in the conditions visible in the photographs and shows signs of aging and use consistent with its age, including wear and abrasions of the gilded finish, cracks, small chips and localized losses in the decorations and preparatory layers.
The mirror, presumably not recent, shows some small marks and imperfections compatible with its age.
The back retains the covering and suspension system visible in the photographs.
Provenance: furnishings from an important Bologna villa.
A decorative mirror with notable presence, suitable for both classic interiors and as a contrasting element in contemporary contexts.
The photographs are an integral part of the description, and please study them carefully for an accurate assessment of the condition.
