Description from the seller
Rollei B35 – Made in Singapore – Chrome
Triotar 40mm f/3.5 – Personal Provenance from Photographer Bill Zygmant
A particularly interesting Rollei B35 35mm camera, manufactured in Singapore and fitted with the classic Rollei Triotar 40mm f/3.5 lens and built-in selenium light meter.
Personal provenance
This camera was personally given to me by British press and entertainment photographer Bill Zygmant from his own collection of cameras.
Bill Zygmant has enjoyed a long career photographing some of the biggest names in music and popular culture. His archive contains more than 60 Beatles photographs, as well as photographs of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Elton John, The Bee Gees, The Who, Queen and many other major musicians and entertainers.
I have provided photographs of myself with Bill Zygmant as supporting evidence of this personal provenance but these are not included in this auction.
The camera
Rollei B35 / 35B
Made by Rollei in Singapore
Chrome/silver finish
Rollei Triotar 40mm f/3.5 lens
Built-in selenium light meter – no battery required
Scale focusing
Collapsible lens
Mechanical shutter
Original Rollei carrying case
Original braided wrist strap
The B35 was produced from October 1969 until early 1978 and was the simplified version of the famous Rollei 35. It retained the remarkably compact design while using a Triotar 40mm f/3.5 lens and battery-free selenium meter. Approximately 95,000 chrome examples were produced in Singapore.
Condition
The camera shows genuine signs of age and use, including cosmetic marks and wear to the chrome finish. The original Rollei case also shows age-related wear.
The lens extends and locks into its normal shooting position and collapses back into the camera body as designed.
The camera is offered UNTESTED. The shutter, film transport, light meter and other functions have not been professionally tested, so no guarantee is made regarding operational performance.
Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
A fascinating collector’s piece
An attractive and highly collectable example of the classic Rollei B35, combining the appeal of a compact vintage 35mm camera with a fascinating connection to the world of British press and music photography.
A particularly interesting opportunity for collectors of Rollei cameras, classic photography, press photography and music-history memorabilia.
