Category: Catawiki
Traditional folding knives / Italian artisanal cutlery / Sicilian regional knives
Description
Offered at auction is this splendid “Il Caltagirone” Fraraccio, an elegant interpretation of one of the knives most representative of Sicilian tradition.
Made in the early 2000s by the historic Fraraccio cutlery in Frosolone, this model pays homage to the culture and traditions of the city of Caltagirone, one of the most important centers in eastern Sicily.
Beyond the traditional use in daily activities, this knife was often present during convivial moments as well, used at the table for cutting antipasti such as cold cuts, cheese, and other products typical of the local tradition.
The knife measures 20 cm in total length and is equipped with an 8.5 cm blade in 420 INOX steel, characterized by a slender and harmonious profile that recalls the classic lines of Sicilian knives handed down from generation to generation.
The magnificent handle is made of black buffalo horn, a material long appreciated in traditional cutlery for its sturdiness, elegance, and uniqueness. The natural shading of the horn makes each piece unique.
For decades, knives of this type accompanied the daily life of Sicilians, used in work, rural activities, and convivial moments. With the Il Caltagirone model, Fraraccio has managed to reinterpret this important heritage while keeping the charm of tradition intact.
