Description from the seller

E.F. Bazot, Manual of the Freemason, or Trousseau of the Key of the tempoutres, third edition, adorned with an allegorical engraving representing masonry both ancient and modern, Paris, at J. Moronval, Printer-Bookseller, 1817, octavo, contemporary binding in green marbled cloth, pp. (4), viij, 376, with a splendid frontispiece engraved in etching by Rocquart depicting a Masonic allegory with columns, the temple and initiatory symbols. A fascinating exemplar of this renowned initiatic and ritual manual of French masonry from the nineteenth century, enriched with definitions of terms, statutes, addresses of Parisian Masonic lodges of the period, general plates and ceremonial discourses for the different stages of workshop work, with slight foxing and wear of time but overall in good condition, a fundamental work for the study of the history and symbolism of Masonic lodges.
