Marantz - SC-6 'Esotec Series' -Serviced- Preamplifier

The SC-6 is a standalone stereo preamplifier from Marantz’s Esotec line. The series targeted the higher end; the SC-6 appeared around 1979 as a more accessible alternative to the larger SC-7, SC-8, SC-9, etc. The SC-6 remained well-equipped.

The phono section supports both MM and MC cartridges. That section uses, according to a restoration report, fourteen FET transistors. The amplifier is fully DC-coupled and uses Class A push-pull stages. These are the design choices that make the SC-6 technically more interesting than a simple line preamplifier (from that era).

Also practical is its versatility: there are adjustment options for the cartridge load, separate tone control for left and right, two preamplifier outputs (for example for mono block applications), and switchable filters.
