Three-piece wooden nesting table set in black lacquer with gilded detailing, in an antique Chinoiserie style dating to circa 1900 with Qing Dynasty influence from China; dimensions: 68 cm high, 43 cm wide, 29 cm deep.
Description from the seller
It depicts an extremely elegant, nesting antique table set in the Chinoiserie style (nesting tables or quartetto tables) dating from the late 19th century (Regency or Napoleon III inspired).
Such pieces of furniture are characterized by a black lacquerware finish, decorated with delicate gilded tendrils and contours. The lower part of the legs is gracefully curved and often ends in stylized dragon claws or gilded paws. The furniture is characterized by openwork, lyre-shaped or tendril-shaped side bracing, which allows tables of different sizes to slide perfectly into each other, saving space.
This particular type of furniture is historically and culturally associated with two main countries: China and Great Britain.
The background of such table sets can be divided as follows:
China (The original place of origin and manufacture)
• Chinese export furniture: The idea of nesting tables (quartetto or nesting tables) and the black, gilded lacquer technique (japanning/lacquerware) originated in China.
• In the 18th and 19th centuries (during the Qing Dynasty), artisans in Canton (Guangzhou) made these luxury items to order, specifically for the Western, European market.
They are in good condition for their age, with many signs of use. We tried to photograph them so that everything is clearly visible.
The table tops themselves are in very good condition, stable, with one or two minor scuffs and scratches.
We can post it carefully packaged, in an insured, registered package.
