Description from the seller
Roman bronze ornamental appliqué with central button — 1st–4th centuries AD.
Proposed period: Roman Empire.
Material: Bronze.
Typology: Circular ornamental appliqué with rear mounting system.
An interesting circular bronze appliqué, characterized by an elegant design of relief concentric circles arranged around a prominent central button with a flat termination.
The composition features a carefully defined outer rim and a slightly concave surface, which emphasizes the volume of the central element.
On the reverse, it retains traces of the ancient mounting system, typical of metal fittings used to ornament wooden surfaces, furniture, and other structures.
The piece displays an attractive green and brown patina, with mineral deposits, wear, and signs of antiquity.
Conservation status: Good integrity of the disk and its decoration, with deterioration of the rear mounting element.
An interesting example of small ornamental metalwork with Roman tradition, especially striking for its geometric balance and its state of preservation.
