Description from the seller
Jewel case - Grass-green fabric dresser with roses • two sliding drawers • ca. 1950–1975 - Paper, Textile
Probably from France, as this decor is more common there.
Grass-green fabric dresser with raspberry pink and ochre yellow roses, two sliding drawers and round ring handles. The floral pattern runs across the top, sides and front of the drawers, and inside there is a cream-colored dotted pattern. On a dressing table or chest it stores jewelry, sewing items, or small mementos. It instantly lends a romantic, bohemian touch to a room.
Description:
A cabinet made of cardboard, covered with printed fabric. The top has a lightly curved front edge. The bottom edge is cut out into two legs. The two sliding drawers run on a partition and have bronze-colored ring handles. The drawers and the interior are lined with a cream-colored design of small cognac-colored dots. The back is open. The roses in raspberry pink and ochre stand against a grass-green background, with white flowers and leaf vines in between.
About the maker:
Cartonnage is the covering of sturdy cardboard with fabric or paper to make boxes, cupboards and miniature furniture. In the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s such lidded drawers stood on the dressing table or in the bedroom, for jewelry, sewing items and small mementos. The cardboard provided the form, the printed fabric provided the mood: here the roses on green. A maker is not named for this cabinet.
In interior design:
Fits a bohemian, vintage or country-style interior, on a dressing table, cabinet or shelf. The grass-green with raspberry-pink roses is a color accent in a bedroom or hallway.
Condition:
Good. Top edge: on the left side the fabric is worn through and the cardboard is visible. Drawer fronts: the fabric is locally faded and stained. Back edge of the bottom: a small piece of cardboard and lining has broken off. Interior and drawers: clean. See the photos.
At a glance:
Material: cardboard, covered with printed fabric, metal ring handles
Dimensions and weight: h 13 x w 17 x d 11 cm, 375 g
