Description from the seller

Merovingian bronze fibula with widened ends — 5th–7th centuries AD

Period: Merovingian
Estimated dating: 5th–7th centuries AD
Material: Bronze.
Typology: Ornamental fibula

Interesting Roman fibula made in cast bronze, of singular geometric design, characterized by a wide central circular disk and two widened ends, joined by a prominent longitudinal rib in relief.

On the reverse it preserves elements of the old fastening mechanism, evidence of its use as a clasp to secure garments.

Condition: Good overall integrity, with an attractive dark green archaeological patina, mineral deposits, and signs of age.

A prominent piece of Roman personal ornament, especially interesting for its unusual geometric composition and the preservation of elements of its fastening system.
