BMW 2002 tii from 1973, finished in Chamonix white with a Kugelfischer fuel-injected 2.0 L M10 engine producing 130 HP, manual 4‑speed transmission, US market original and now located in Poland with Polish registration papers, 66,000 miles, service history present, MOT not valid, overall body and chassis show rust and corrosion requiring repair while the interior is in good condition with wear and original features documented by a comprehensive renovation from 2006–2007.
Description from the seller
BMW 2002 tii from 1973: fuel-injected 2002 with early round rear lights that BMW fitted for the 1973 model year. Among Neue Klasse collectors this combination is particularly sought after.
The car was factory-delivered for the American market. This is confirmed by the BMW emissions sticker (US model year 1973, EPA / California ARB) in the engine bay and the speedometer in miles. It was used in Boston (Massachusetts). In 2007 it was imported and registered in Poland. Afterwards it underwent a comprehensive restoration: restoration of the body with repaint in the original color, a full engine overhaul, and adaptation to European specifications. Since then nearly 20 years have passed and the car now requires bodywork/paint corrections.
Basic data
Chassis number: 2763034 (matching the tag and registration document)
Engine: 2.0 R4 (M10), Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection, 96 kW / 130 HP according to the registration certificate
Gearbox: manual, 4-speed
Color: Chamonix (white). There is an original sticker in the engine bay saying “Außenlackierung BMW – chamonix”
Interior: dark blue
Odometer: 67,924 miles (the five-digit odometer reads in miles). The actual mileage is not documented and I do not guarantee it
Registration: Polish, since 2007
Paint: the car was fully repainted in the original Chamonix color during the restoration in Poland. From a distance it presents well: it has correct proportions, even gaps, and is complete. Up close, however, the paint shows its age and requires work:
- paint bubbles (corrosion beneath the coating) on the front edge of the hood, above the grille,
- bubbles and corrosion on the lower edges of both doors,
- minor chips and scratches typical of use,
Rust and welding: areas in need of repair. These spots will require welding:
- Chassis, front suspension area: perforation corrosion of a chassis element (photo from the jack). This is the most serious area to repair.
- Right rear fender: perforation in the lower rear corner, in front of the bumper,
- Sills: corrosion along the lower edges, visible under the sill trims,
- Hood: corrosion on the inner edge from the bottom.
Additionally:
- Engine bay: surface rust on sheet metal joints and around the wheel well,
- Chassis: peeling protective coating and surface rust on the floor and suspension components. Aside from the front suspension area, I don’t see other floor perforations in the photos, but I encourage an inspection.
Previous welds: during restoration after import, the body was rebuilt. This is documented with photos during the work (body on a stand, engine bay, trunk, undercarriage).
Seals, glass, chrome, lights:
Windows: complete.
Chromes (bumpers, moldings, handles, mirrors): complete, with slight pitting and age-related marks, especially on the bumpers,
Lights: round rear lamps in good condition, headlights clean and without cracks.
Engine and gearbox:
M10 engine with Kugelfischer injection underwent a full rebuild during the restoration. This is documented with photos showing engine work, leaks, injector smoothness: very good,
4-speed gearbox (operation, synchronizers, leaks): very good
Clutch: no remarks,
Suspension, brakes, tires:
Suspension: during restoration Bilstein shocks were installed and suspension components refurbished (photos from the restoration).
Tires: 13-inch on alloy wheels.
Exhaust: stainless steel.
History of repairs and servicing:
Restoration with a full engine overhaul in Poland, year: 2006-2007,
The documentation includes invoices and correspondence from recognized BMW 02 specialists: Walloth & Nesch (Germany), Jaymic (UK) and Cahsel (Germany),
Starting and driving:
Starting from cold and warm engine: very good,
Driving (handling, braking, operating temperature): no remarks,
How much the car has driven in recent years: little.
3. Interior condition
Seats and upholstery: dark blue, in generally good condition. On the sides of the front seats there are wear marks and creases, and on the rear bench there are light signs of use. The front seats are adjustable with headrests. Was the upholstery original or refurbished: upholstery was replaced.
Door panels: dark blue, in good condition.
Headliner: perforated, light-colored, clean and without stains.
Dashboard: complete. Original factory-style steering wheel, VDO gauges in miles, clock, original ventilation panel and the US version seat belt indicator.
Carpet: gray, in usable condition.
Non-original elements: modern CD radio with a speaker in the central console, wooden gear knob with BMW logo.
Electrical system: no remarks
4. Documentation
Polish registration document and a photo of the VIN plate.
A very extensive binder with historical documents from American times (Boston) and later invoices, parts orders and correspondence.
Invoices from BMW 02 specialists (including Walloth & Nesch, Jaymic, Cahsel).
Appraiser’s report from a Polish car appraiser.
Photographic documentation of the restoration: body, engine and suspension during work.
The set includes BMW literature for 1502–2002 and spare parts
Repairs after purchase
All the above-mentioned bodywork/paint repairs can be carried out in Poland after purchase, upon buyer’s order and before collection or transport of the car. I can help organize work in a trusted workshop and agree in advance on scope and estimate. This solution is especially for overseas buyers who want to collect the car ready to use.
Summary
This is a genuine 2002 tii with round lamps and a traceable history from Boston to Warsaw. The car has already undergone one comprehensive restoration, with an overhauled engine and extensive documentation. This is not a showpiece for a concours; it is a solid, well-documented base for the next stage of bodywork/paint, not a car to start from scratch. I have listed all weak points above and shown them in the photos.
I invite you to view it in MB Classics hall in Sowia Wola near Warsaw. I am happy to answer detailed questions and send additional photos, videos or scans of documents. I can arrange transport within Europe.
