Mexique by Fulvio Roiter, signed first edition in French, 230 pages, 31 × 28 cm, hardcover with dust jacket and case, published by Atlantis in Zurich around 1970, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Exemplary copy, exceptionally signed on the title page by Fulvio Roiter (1926 - 2016). 230 pages and 169 photographs in black and white and in color with detailed captions of the photographs at the end of each chapter, texts in French by Carlos Pellicer, Max Mittler. Very handsome yellow cloth binding with title imprinted in relief in black lettering, illustrated dust jacket and editorial case.
The ancient citadels of the Maya-era have mostly been unearthed in the 19th century, while Spanish colonists had already built towns with Baroque architecture, which explains the juxtaposition of monuments that is sometimes surprising. Moreover, in the 1960s Mexico was already beginning to transform into a modern city. The famous Venetian photographer Fulvio Roiter, a proponent of high-contrast black and white and saturated color, offers in this work a humanist and graphic vision of deep Mexico. He provides here a striking visual portrait of Mexico in the 1960s, capturing its architecture from the architecture of ancient cities to the Baroque and modern eras, its landscapes, as well as the mores, customs and faces of its population before the era of globalization.
Exemplary copy in excellent condition, a book from my personal collection kept with the greatest care. Shipping protected very effectively and international tracking guaranteed. In case of multiple purchases, grouped shipping is possible with reimbursement of any overpaid postage via PayPal.
