Description from the seller
Exceptional specimen of the coveted first edition of "Twenty-Five Nudes" by Eric Gill, published in 1938 by J.M. Dent & Sons Ltd. for the renowned private press Hague & Gill Ltd. A milestone in 20th-century modern printmaking and Arts and Crafts editorial design. The book includes the author's introductory essay and the complete collection of 25 engraved nudes, delineated in white lines on dark, contrasted backgrounds.Condition Report:Interior: In an extraordinary state and very hard to find. The text block, the half-title, the two-color frontispiece and the 25 plates are completely clean, crisp, and firm, free from damp staining (foxing) or dirt. Retains the original endpapers (with faint vintage pencil annotations from a bookseller). Red cloth binding, with gilt lettering, very solid and bright.
Dust Jacket: Original and complete. Notably, it is NOT price-clipped, retaining the original price "6s net" on the lower corner of the rear flap—a detail of extreme rarity that enhances the piece. Shows natural age-toning on the spine and white areas, light surface stains and chipping (with small cracks) along the edges and ends of the spine, normal for its 88 years but without structural paper losses that affect the main illustrations.
A top-tier collectible for 20th-century art investors and discerning bibliophiles.
