Description from the seller
Rare Murano opaline glass vanity wall mirror with flower rosettes – Venice, Italy – ca. 1950/1960
Venetian vanity mirror, handcrafted on the famous glass island Murano (Italy) around the 1950s or 1960s.
This mirror is a splendid example of Italian craftsmanship. The wavy frame is made of hand-blown opaline glass (vetro opalino), a historic Venetian technique that imitates the look of fine porcelain. The semi-transparent glass has a magical opalescent effect: depending on the light, it glows with a soft, mystical light blue to pearl-like sheen. This gives the mirror its luxurious and silky appearance.
The edges are finely finished with twisted glass braids and distinctive glass knobs. The mirror is richly decorated with four large, detailed glass flower rosettes in the corners and delicate glass flower buds, which are attached to the frame with the original screws. The back features the authentic wooden back and the fold-out easel leg, allowing the mirror to be placed on a dressing table or sideboard.
A timeless and elegant showpiece that adds a touch of Hollywood Regency and Venetian grandeur to any classic or modern interior.
Dimensions
Height 26 cm
Width 25 cm
Depth 2 cm
Condition:
In good and authentic vintage condition with characteristic age and use marks. The hand-blown glass frame and the delicate floral ornaments are fully intact and in good condition.
The original mirror glass has developed a beautiful, time-worn patina over the decades: the glass is slightly dulled and shows the typical dark spots (oxidation of the silver layer) here and there, as clearly visible in the detail photos. This gives the mirror that striking, authentic antique look and proves that it is an original piece of glasswork from the period.
