Description from the seller
Sculpture in powdered marble depicting Eros.
The Hellenistic-origin work was discovered in 1772 in Centocelle (Rome), from which it takes its name; it is also known as the Centocelle Eros.
It was purchased by Pope Clement XIV and consequently exhibited in the Hall of Busts and Statues of the Vatican Museums where it is kept to this day.
In 1800, for a short period, the Centocelle Eros was also shown at the Louvre after Napoleon Bonaparte's acquisition from Pope Pius VI under the Treaty of Tolentino.
A professional academic sculpture, completely handmade by skilled artisans. A piece from a museum plaster-model collection. The craftsmanship has very ancient origins, and it is carried out entirely by hand by artists in the sculpting sector, made with materials such as scagliola and Carrara marble powder.
The shipment is entrusted to a packaging company (professional packing).
