Pair of exceptionally extravagant, high-quality candelabra in fire-gilt bronze from Paris, France, dating to the 18th/19th century and attributed to the Parisian bronziers after the model of Gouthière, in antique Rococo style with elaborately sculpted figures.
Description from the seller
A pair of exceptionally extravagant & high-quality candelabra made of fire-gilded bronze •France•Paris• after the Gouthière model!
These impressive candelabra stand as a exemplary testament to the high art of Parisian bronziers of the Rococo and are characterized by a particularly lively, sculptural design. The construction follows the typical, dynamic Rocaille form language, with the composition defined by finely tuned volutes, asymmetrical openings, and an elegant line flow.
Of particular note are the especially masterfully sculpted female busts on the shaft, whose finely modeled facial features, softly worked hairstyles, and individual expressiveness convey remarkable liveliness. These figurative elements give the candelabra a nearly sculptural quality and are characteristic of the demanding Parisian bronze production of the period.
At the candle head there are also mask-like faces, designed with great precision and expressiveness, framing the light in a refined way. The base is also richly decorated, showing centrally arranged faces or grotesques, embedded in a complex lattice of Rocaille and leaf motifs. These recurring figurative accents create a harmonious connection between the individual parts of the candelabrum.
The original fire-gilding presents a warm, deep radiance and shows an authentically aged patina, which further emphasizes the sculptural details and impressively underscores the historical character.
A rare and highly decorative pair of great artistic quality, which impressively embodies the elegance and refinement of Parisian Rococo bronze art.
Condition: The valuable candelabra may, in keeping with age, be partially superficially worn (see photos)!
